The Top 5 kits at this year’s FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is here! With 64 games hitting our screens over the course of the next 32 days we think it’s time to rank the top five kit designs on display.

This coming World Cup has corresponded with an increased interest in classic football shirts with retro-geometric designs and patterns and nations have followed suit.

5 – Croatia (Home)

One of the most distinctive kits in today’s game, Nike has got it spot on again with Croatia’s kit. Bold and brash, the checkerboard pattern is inspired by the coat of arms on the Croatian flag and is sure to turn a few heads in Russia.

4 – Brazil (Home)

The yellow and blue trim carried by the Samba boys is recognised globally as one of the most iconic strips in football. This kit really doesn’t need much interference, and Nike has done precisely that.

3 – France (Home)

Again it’s Nike who delivers, and this time it’s with France. A dark blue design with a lighter airwave pattern on the sleeves makes this kit great while sticking closely to the traditional blue/white/red that is synonymous with France. Bien Joué!

2 – Germany (Away)

The defending world champions will go to Russia in a similar white strip to the previous. Nevertheless, it is the away kit that sets them apart from the rest (penalty taking notwithstanding). The teal green geometric strip is beautifully designed and one of the finest in this year’s competition.

1 – Nigeria (Home)

It was obvious, wasn’t it? The flamboyant strip pays homage to Nigeria’s first ever World Cup in 1994, a distinctive, vivid green pattern with white and black execution on the sleeves. The Super Eagles home kit was so popular that it sold out within minutes of going on sale and is sure to go down as one of the ‘best ever’ kit designs, and a collectors dream!
